  • Armours a bit rusty now
I have a family pc with a gigabyte ga-k8u mother board running an Amd sempron 2800+  1.6ghz bus skt 754.
Has anyone got an Athlon 64 that will run on this board. that they are willing to part with for a reasonable price.  :biga:
I can find plenty of them with faster bus speeds 1.8, 2, 2.2 but only the same Sempron available on-line.
I cant afford to build another pc at present but this is getting so slow it will be leaving via the window soon if I can't sort it.
Can anyone help  :dunno:

Thank you for the effort M8, but that is the same as what's in the machine at present. I am buying some extra ram as the pc has reported lack of virtual memory a few times. Only time will tell lol

memory is wery important and more is better :icon_cheesygrin: u can also change the virtual memmory the drive is using, kind of dedicating a part of the drive for the system to use, when u go online we can talk about it  :good:

Don't say anything, its just the way it is.

I am the AMD man... And you wont get anything much better to put in that board... You need to get a new mobo and chip mate!!!! Saying that it also means you will need new ram too... and possiable graphics card depending on what sort of slot your current graphics card has!!!!
Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/267509-gigabyte-ga-m68mt-s2p-nvidia-geforce-7025-amd-am3-7-1-channel-hd-audio-matx-ga-m68mt-s2p

Dual core cpu http://www.ebuyer.com/237554-amd-athlon-ii-x2-250-3-00ghz-socket-am3-2mb-l2-cache-retail-adx250ocgmbox

Quad Core CPU http://www.ebuyer.com/242140-amd-athlon-ii-x4-640-socket-am3-3ghz-2mb-l2-cache-retail-adx640wfgmbox

Better Quad core CPU http://www.ebuyer.com/311396-amd-960t-black-edition-3-0ghz-socket-am3-8mb-l2-cache-retail-boxed-hd96ztwfgrbox

These would all be alot better than the one you are running now...
I know you are on a budget thats why I have put the cheaper dual core in there...

Unfortunatly you will need some new ram unless you are running ddr3, which is very unlikely with skt 754.

Hope this helps a bit mate...

Just found this bundle that seems ok for the price.... On offer at the moment at 99.99 instead of 149.99

Ahh in that case sod it... :icon_mrgreen:

If it just for internet clear temp files & defrag  it !. also get the hover in it & clear all the dust build up out Tru.  You will be surprised the older & more crap that goes on a PC the slower the thing will get !

Do disk clean ups every time it is used !. & defrag it on a monthly basis this might help it a bit if it is just for browsing speed doesn't matter that much TBH.  also clean out your internet caches this is done in the browser itself !.  :good:
