Connection Halp
« on: 14-November-2010, 18:38 »
If anyone has any advice/experience/knowledge on this I would be very greatfull! I am having much difficulty determining where the problem is.

I have been having terrible connection problems, disconnects and a 12kb/s download cap (usual 260kb/s). My upload speed (~60 kb/s) seems unchanged apart from disconnections which is one of the reasons I think its my ISP.

It could ONLY be one of the following : The wiring from my master socket to the ground, the cable to the exchange, bt's equipment or my service provider(eclipse(terrible)).

BT and my ISP say all is well, and my isp is threatening me with a

If I was you i would keep all the Trace routes & line speeds and then email them to the support department  as it looks like your ISP is not at its best ! Then just confront them with the test results which they can't deny as for a call out fee that's a mickytake imo if there is something wrong they need to investigate it simple as ask BT to do a line watch also see if they can find any issues with the line itself..

Apart from that you can unscrew the master phone socket and jack straight into it & see if it is any better if it is might point to the socket..

Thanks Jimbo, yeah tryed the master socket allready, and everything possible at my end.

I was ordering a new phone line from BT, but looking at the traceroutes I think I will cancel it and switch ISP first.

I sent Eclipse a rage email a few days ago, no reply yet should have been more polite  :icon_neutral:

Looking at some review sites, Eclipse is now one of the worst :P With people reporting similar issues to me. Guess I got complacent.

Hahaha It dont matter what ISP you goto they are all morons!!!!!!!
If your exchange has some company with their own equipment in the exchange then you normally get a better price and service from them...
Sky llu offer UPTO************* 20Mb....
This is an upto so most people dont get that amount!!
Depends on distance and line quality ect.....
sky also offer it as an UNLIMITED Bandwidth...
I get through around 100 to 150 Gb per  month so any other isp would kill my line after arounfd 60Gb.
Unless I was with virgin medai on their 50Mb package!!!!
So choose carefuly.
use this website to check if there is any llu services and also the possiable speeds through normal BT equipment if there is NO llu.

So I switched from eclipse to Aquiss, It looks like I lost some upload, but the line needs 10 days to settle apparently, its also a bit more expensive.

But I gained decent support, clear and decent bandwidth limits, no specific data throttling and good routing. Not to mention I get speeds that I was told were DEFFINATLY impossible due to my exchange/line etcetc.
